| Description
of Project
The
City of Oakland Park is committed not just to better
design, but to real placemaking that promotes mixed-use
redevelopment with new and higher density residential
development for prominent corridors and intersections.
The City intends to connect into one cohesive core three
disparate areas along Dixie Highway and Prospect Road,
including the recently established Local Activity Center
(LAC), a conglomeration of high density urban residential
to its north, and the Prospect Road Corridor. The Prospect
Road Corridor it is an east/west local arterial with
dense neighborhoods bordering both sides. Officials
would like to create increased awareness of the corridor,
secure an appropriate gateway statement, entice economic
development to the area, utilize infill development,
assure that the proper mix of uses occurs, and promote
existing “destination areas” in a way that provides
a branding or better sense of identity for the corridor.
Central to these intentions is the City’s belief that
the corridor’s two relatively intense intersections
at Andrews Avenue and Dixie Highway might serve as potential
destination nodes for the community. |
